A Brief History Orchard FM began broadcasting on 1989-November-26th was the West Country's favourite radio station. Originally, the station played a mix of classic hits from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's to current top tunes. Orchard FM was initially a "stand alone" radio station and grew to be a relatively small but very successful media group. Under the banner of Orchard Media Limited they also had an interest in several other stations in the area including Lantern FM, Wessex FM and Gemini FM/Gemini AM. In 1999, Orchard Media sold out to the GWR Group PLC. GWR are a very large group of radio stations owning many, many different radio stations in England and indeed across the world! GWR turned the station into a "Better Musix Mix" format which lead to the 60's and 70's songs being wiped from the playlist and popular presenters moving on.
