Charity Open Day 1999 The 1999 Orchard FM Charity Open Day was awaited with great anticipation by all the staff at the station, the listeners and of course all the charities involved. Hot weather was promised for the event which opened at 12 noon on 1999-May-29th. The day started warm and dry. Kevin Owen and Bob McCreadie enthusiastically launched the show unaware of what was to come! After only about an hour the heavens opened up and everyone ran for cover! Shortly afterwards the skies cleared and the activities continued as if nothing had happened! Kevin Owen even read a "Severe Weather Warning" on air and informed the crowd that he was under an obligation to report this to the listeners and reassured the audience that it did not effect the Taunton area! Shortly afterwards thunder cracked and lightning flashed and the rain dropped from the sky like stair rods! Everyone tried hard to battle on hoping the weather would clear. Sadly it did not. Bob McCreadie officially declared the event cancelled  at around 13:30, this is the first time the show has ever been cancelled. I had a super 1 hour and 30 minutes.
